Here at the River we like to call Lisa Markham the premier media specialist in the county. Lisa is an exceptional media specialist who always strives to support our entire school.
From reading to students during specials rotations to celebrating reading success, Lisa plays a pivotal role in our literacy initiatives. She is our Good News Ambassador and shares all the wonderful opportunities our school is engaged in every day. On any given day you will hear her cheering for students who are meeting their reading goals by ringing our honor bell. Anyone who visits our media center during these moments stops and cheers for these students reaching their academic reading goals. This routine is embedded into our practices and fosters a love of reading in our students, something we are passionate about at the River.
Furthermore, Lisa organizes various reading opportunities for our families, students, and staff. Battle of the Books, the One Read program, and the list goes on and on are all driven by her continued support of schoolwide reading. Her continued goal for all of our students is to create lifelong readers who love to not only read, but share their love of reading with others.
In addition, Lisa also films our daily news show in which students share goals, celebrations, and weekly news for our staff and students. Her tireless efforts make our routines and practices smooth across the building. This daily show promotes community in our building and we so appreciate all she does to help foster the connections around our school.
Lisa Markham is an excellent nominee for the Hidden Hero award for all of the amazing work she promotes around our school without expecting the recognition she deserves.
