Regina Bannister

  • Regina Bannister is the definition of a Hidden Hero: a quiet powerhouse whose career in the Colquitt County school system has been defined by unwavering advocacy for students with exceptional needs. Having worked alongside Regina for over seven years, I have seen firsthand how her deep background with DFACS, her experience as a math teacher, and her leadership as an IEP coordinator prepared her to make a profound impact on our students daily.

As the IEP coordinator at Willie J. Williams Middle School, Regina was the anchor of our department. She navigated special education law flawlessly, met every deadline, and ensured every piece of paperwork was thorough. More importantly, she led with patience and fairness, always keeping the students’ best interests at the heart of every decision and speaking up without hesitation when it mattered most.

Her exceptional leadership recently earned her a promotion to Director of Vereen, our district’s GNETS program, which provides crucial educational, behavioral, and therapeutic support for students aged 5 to 21. Regina stepped into this challenging role with pure grit. Earlier this school year, when faced with severe, high-stress behavioral crises that would cause many to step back, Regina did the opposite. She put herself directly in the trenches, taking control to restore safety, support her staff, and protect her students.

Regina is far too humble to ever call herself a hero, but she earns that title every single day. She leads by example, lifts up everyone around her, and represents the very best of our school system. I am deeply grateful to call her a hidden hero, a mentor, a colleague, and a friend.
