Dr. Howie Gunby was born and raised in Lincoln County. He was a hard-working student and his parents established a local business that continues to serve the community today. Dr. Gunby's training as child is clearly seen in how he conducts himself as an educator of 25-plus years in the same district. He has served as teacher, assistant principal, principal, and district leader. Dr. Gunby has worked in the school system and the community giving back for many years and presently, serving as the Superintendent of Schools. He has such a strong "servant heart" by giving to others and finding innovative ways to help teachers and students be successful. He is a man of faith and works! Every day he reports to the school district ready to work and support the staff with obtaining their goals for children. He is passionate, caring, and dedicated to serving others. His passion radiates in his work each day as he leads the school district forward using SMART Teams and a strong collaborative framework whereby everyone in the district has a "voice." So, it is easy to see why Dr. Gunby is an excellent illustration of a "Hidden Hero," because he stays in the background pushing and inspiring others to become their better future self. We see him as a staircase that others can rely on to reach their highest potential. It is my honor to know him, to have worked with him, and to have grown because of him. In closing, if you happen to be down and look up to see a hand reaching to help pick you up, it is a good chance that it will be Dr. Howie F. Gunby's hand.
